Joining us as our Patron – Marsha de Cordova MP

We are thrilled to officially welcome Marsha de Cordova MP to our group of Patrons.

Our Patrons are our biggest advocates who help us to raise awareness around disability rights and inclusion, and the profile of Able Child and the Able Child Africa Network.

Marsha has served as MP for Battersea in Southwest London since 2017 and is the Chair of the Disability APPG.

Previously the Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities from 2020 – 2021, Marsha was also the Shadow Minister for Disabled People for three years between 2017 – 2020.

Born with nystagmus and registered blind, Marsha has dedicated much of her life to campaigning for disability rights and is passionate about ensuring equality and a good standard of living for all.

And she has already made a significant impact in raising our status.

After the announcement earlier this year that the UK Government is reducing the overseas aid budget to its lowest level in 25 years, Marsha’s important intervention during the debate not only brought Able Child and our work into the Commons Chamber but spoke for children with disabilities globally who will suffer disproportionately from the cuts. We also had the great honour of hosting a Parliamentary Reception with Marsha last year so that we could bring together our biggest donors and friends to say thank you for their support, while demonstrating while we must continue our mission together.

Marsha is perfectly placed to champion our mission and increase awareness of our work – and will be a strong ally for Able Child, disability rights and inclusion at the international level.

Together, we can ensure that no child with disability is left behind.
